How important is a voice? When we think about people transitioning between sexes, we generally think about physical attributes – their chest, their jawline, their hair, their genitals. But what about their voice? For transgender men, hormone treatment automatically lowers the register of a person’s voice.
Check out this interesting podcast about Dana Kaplan (no relation to the editor), a transgender man and a member of the band, Smittens. Dana took testosterone as he transitioned, which – amongst other things – affected his voice. Now, he has to create a whole new singing voice for his band.
